deviantART real life story!

Journal Entry: Sat Jun 20, 2009, 11:51 PM
This is the story of how I found an artist on deviantART and bought her art work in a small town the next day unexpectedly.

For the past week I have been in a small town in British Columbia called Creston. A truely excellent man passed away last month and the family has come together to celebrate his life. I arrived on Tuesday evening.

Upon arriving I was messing around on my media device and did a search on Google for, "deviantart creston BC" just to see if there was any local deviants. One of the results was ~vashley. I looked around her gallery briefly for about 10 minutes and went to bed.

The next day my mother and I took a walk down main street. She was looking for a consignment shop that she had heard about from my cousin's wife who supplies some childrens clothing to the outlet. In the front of the store is a smattering of clothing articles and at the back 5 or 6 wedding dresses. As my mother shopped for yesterday's fashion I happened upon a display case which had some art prints. My jaw dropped a little bit. There in the case was something I had seen on dA the night before. A print of, "Space Rooster" by ~vashley

I asked the owner about it and learned a little bit more about the artist (well not much... just enough to drop 25 bucks for the print).

I think I'll hang it in my kitchen when I get home. Thanks for the art work ~vashley! It's a shame I didn't get to meet you! Drop me a line next time you log in.

Oh WOW thats so cool thats there's other deviants out there, and one was in my town!! ^_^ So amazing that you recognized my artwork! Hahaha the lady who worked there told me my artwork wouldn't sell there because it was a consignment shop... and well, there aren't a lot of people looking for artwork when they walk into a consignment shop. I'm glad she's been proved wrong, I was starting to worry that she was right.
I was in a car accident lately and I broke my leg, so I haven't been down there for a while to talk to the lady, or to check up on my artwork - usually I spend my days lounging on the streets of Creston.
Thank you so much for checking out my artwork, and buying my print. Glad you liked the Space Rooster ^_^ that peice was kind of a fluke, its one of those "before its time" kinda paintings, but I hope to do more like it in the near future... I've always wants to do a hen to go with it. My mom also has that picture hanging in her living room! Its one of those pictures where a small child would look at it and love it, and an older person would look at it and love it - so it's been a genuine success for me, considering I usually draw anime type people or dark creepy things - which has a more selective audience.
So Thanks again, and thanks for posting this journal and featuring me ^_^ What a cool story!

what a small world, and what a sharp eye you must have to have spotted a deviants artwork :)

I'm willing to bet that every small town has a deviant. All we have to do is look for them.
