No Internet?! I Don't Think So! + Artumas Africa

Journal Entry: Tue Jun 30, 2009, 10:53 PM
This journal shows off my tiny awesome router which I had to take out of retirement. It also points to an awesome project that helps kids in Africa.

My room mate decided to take the wireless router to BC with him for two weeks. No one in the house knows why, but imagine four guys without internet in the same house meeting in the kitchen trying to figure out what to do. That was us.

Then I realized! I had a tiny pocket router by Linksys that I bought years ago!

Meet the Linksys WRT54GC:

This thing is the size of my fist and packs a punch. It allows for four ports by cable or as many as it can allow by wireless. I was worried that we wouldn't be able to all connect to it due to its size, but the transmission speeds are actually better than it's big blue cousins (you know the ones with the big pointy ears).

As far as I can tell Linksys doesn't make this router anymore. If you want this pocket router you better hit eBay. It's freaking sweet. I even got a signal 10 meters away with my PSP in the backyard.

Aside:

I met with a group of Kilimanjaro climbers today for Artumas Africa Foundation at Art Central to show them some gear they need to ascend the largest freestanding mountain on earth. What an awesome cause to help children in Africa!

Saw your avatar, and was wondering if you could tell me who she is.

Also, you have some good photos. I like the "Ancient" picture.

The character in my avatar is called Sophie. She is a character in an anime series called Last Exile. If you love anime then you need to see this series. It's the best I have ever watched! It's extremely artistic, has a wonderful story and has a lot of value when watched again and again and again. I usually watch it once a year like nerds watch all of the Star Wars films. Excellent series!

I'm glad that you like my photos. I am currently experimenting with film cameras of extremely low quality results to see if I can get some interesting effects. Mind you it costs a hell of a lot of money and I don't recommend it for people that want to have crisp professional stuff.

How is your day? It's nice to see you.
Thanks. I will definitely check this series out. :)

Film cameras? Nostalgic! I bought one from a couple some time back, but it needs repair. As you said though, "analog"-camera hobbies are quite expensive. Have fun with that and hope you will get some satisfactory results. :)

You do good ANSI. Why do you not have a gallery folder for it? I've got folders for the ansi stuff for my BBS. `roy-sac sent me, via his journal: [link]

... Any fool can criticize, condemn, and complain. And most do.
I first created my first ANSI in 1996. It was for a door game that never had enough programming behind it to be released. The ANSI art in my gallery is very sub par. I love the art form but don't think of myself as an ANSI artist.

I checked out your website, but didn't try telnet to your BBS. Is it really active?

My BBS is primarily a message board. Not many doors since the Linux Switch I made (I just haven't had the time to screw with DOSemu. So. its fault of my schedule, not of the software :D

The Malkavia Local Forums are practically a waste of time as everyone prefers to talk within Xpresit Net (my echomail network). Which is fine, of course. I've got no complaints :)

Activity on both Malkavia and in Xpresit are much like the ocean tides: sometimes activity is high, other times it is low.

One problem the BBS Scene currently has is more boards needing ANSI and hardly anyone to actually do it. This has end resulting in a lot of stock boards. Of course, many of those systems are run by lazy Sysops. Others however, wish they could do more but there is a serious supply and demand problem with ANSI.

People such as yourself taking your art more seriously would assist in rectifying the problem.

Great artists of Arabic Calligraphy here, add this deviant to your watches [link] :D
The current GM of text art and I were talking about your works on Skype when I faved it. We were talking about calligraphy and how it is made digital beyond traditional works of art. ^Sander-Seto suggested I look at one of your pieces and commented on how Arabic type can be formed into something quite artistic and typographic.

uh,,, that a good news,,,, I am be so happy when I hear that. Actually Arabic calligraphy plays a great role as a separated art.

If u can suggest one of my work to put in the daily deviations I will be happy and thankful :D

Honestly you don't need to thank me besides the thread on your image. No one is reading it.
